How does the Performance Company work?
Performance Company students enroll in our three main Academy-level in-person weekly DANCE classes, as well as our dedicated Performance Company class. Members are committed to regular and consistent attendance. This is a yearly program with a commitment that runs until June 2023. Here's what it's made up of:
1. Technique classes:
Performance Company members take technique classes in 1) Ballet, 2) Modern / Contemporary, and 3) Jazz / Tap.
2. Composition / Performance class
Performance Company members attend an exclusive weekly class where they work on different aspects of performance training including choreography, fundamentals of composition, performance etiquette, and the craft of polishing a piece for performance. Team building permeates all of our activities, helping to build friendships and create a cohesive group.
3. Extended classes on PD Fridays
Students attend extended Performance Company classes on PD Fridays where they prepare for upcoming performances, as well as cover special topics like Jumps & Turns, Stretch & Strength, Anatomy, etc. These classes are mandatory and are free to Company members. Students may be able to attend this classes remotely, depending on the topic. Some classes require additional materials, like resistance bands or yoga blocks. Performance Company members begin class at 4p on PD Fridays throughout the year.
4. Additional rehearsals
Students may have extra rehearsals in the period leading up to performances. We try to keep these to a minimum, and give families as much notice as possible.
5. Performances
Performance Company members participate in studio recitals and may have additional performance opportunities as well!
