How does the Junior Leader Program work?
As a Junior Leader, dancers will be role models to the younger members of our studio. The Junior Leader Program has two components:
1. Active-observation class participation
Each Junior Leader attends a class of a lower level (10 classes in total) as an active observer. They participate fully in the class, and may be asked to take on extra duties like skills demonstration.
2. Workbook completion
After each class, students sit down on their own with their Junior Leader Workbook and pick one of 10 questions to answer. Students also complete the Reflections section at the back of their workbook.
In addition to their observation classes, Junior leaders have periodic meetings with peers and check-ins with the director. When the student has attended 10 observation classes and has completed their workbook, they meet with the director who reviews their responses and answers any questions they may have.
The Junior Leader program has two levels. Each level typically takes about three months to complete. In order to graduate a level, Junior Leaders complete both the in-class portion and the workbook, and receive authorization to graduate by the director. At the conclusion of each level, students receive a certificate and are eligible to apply to the next level of training.
