How does the Performance Company work?
Performance Company students enroll in our three main Academy-level in-person weekly DANCE classes, as well as our dedicated Performance Company class. Members are committed to regular and consistent attendance in class and for performances. This is a yearly program with a commitment that runs until June 2024. Here's what it's made up of:
1. Technique classes:
Performance Company members take technique classes in 1) Ballet, 2) Modern / Contemporary, and 3) Jazz / Tap.
2. Technical and Strength Training / Composition / Performance Class
Performance Company members attend an exclusive weekly class where they work on different aspects of performance training including choreography, fundamentals of composition, performance etiquette, and the craft of polishing a piece for performance. Class also includes weekly technical and strength training, depending where we are at in the season. Team building permeates all of our activities, helping to build friendships and create a cohesive group.
3. Concert Camps / Additional Rehearsals
Students attend extended Performance Company classes -- Concert Camps -- on select PD Day Fridays, where they prepare for upcoming presentations. Students may have other additional scheduled rehearsals in the period leading up to shows.
4. Performances
Performance Company members participate in studio recitals and may have additional performance opportunities as well!
5. Carer Participation
Student carers are required to take on backstage roles at our presentations and events. For our major shows, we usually have two performances that carers can help at one and then watch the other.
